Tom Dempsey is an orthopedic surgeon by profession, and a fly fisherman by passion. Tom moved from North Carolina more than 35 years ago to Mobile, Alabama where he developed a quest to sight cast for redfish along the Gulf Coast. He is a FFI certified casting instructor, a former member of the of the FFI board of directors and the FFI membership committee, casting director for the FFI Gulf Coast Council and three local fly fishing clubs. He founded the Gulf Coast Fly Fishing School eight years ago in Mobile which has instructors in Mobile, New Orleans, Nashville, Atlanta, Pensacola, and Key West giving over 200 lessons a year. He has fished in more than 30 countries but his one special love is reds in shallow water.
