Michael Caranci
Fly Fisher, Guide, Host, Instructor
While teaching at The Fly Shop, Michael also guided full-time in the early 2000s on all of Northern California’s famous watersheds, including the Lower Sacramento, Upper Sacramento, McCloud, Hat Creek, Pit River, Fall River, and Trinity River. From 2005-2013 he managed The Fly Shop’s Northern California Outfitters Guides Service and Private Waters programs.
Michael’s passion for travel led him to begin hosting trips to International destinations, and he soon transitioned from guiding to managing sales and operations for International fisheries including Kamchatka, Mongolia, Belize, Bahamas, Seychelles, Kiritibati, Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, and more. For over a decade now Michael has traveled the globe with fly rod in hand in search of the most remote places, and most exotic fish he could find.
Throughout his travels, Mongolia in particular became a special place for Michael. It is a magical place: wild and beautiful, full of warm-hearted people, incredible history, and of course the taimen, perhaps the most awesome of all freshwater fish. After several memorable adventures, Michael began working full-time with Fish Mongolia and Mongolia River Outfitters in 2019.
Michael is also an accomplished author, having published stories in almost every major fly fishing magazine in the US as well as several international magazines in Italy and Russia. His first published book is scheduled to print later this year: Poor Man’s Rest, The Legacy of Belize’s First Fishing Lodge.
