Description
This book is written by a serious fisherman whose spent countless hours angling the rivers and streams of North America from Alaska to Florida. But it is far more than just a collection of tall tales about fishing.
Bowen is also a serious (and on occasion, not-so-serious) fiction writer who uses the quiet intimacy of fishing, its lore and rhythms, as a backdrop for telling a much bigger story. That story concerns the nature of fate, family, love and friendship--in short, existence. Through these tales, you'll meet a circus of characters; some surprisingly familiar, some seemingly odd at first. But you'll find all of them hard to forget once you get to know them.
The Midnight Fish & Other Stories is wonderful reading delivered with equal doses of humanity and humor by a young writer possessed of a steady hand, a receptive ear and a fisherman's eye for detail.
WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING:
"The stores in this collection have the same qualities as good angling: fine aim, clean casts, tight lines. Scott Bowen has the soul of a poet and the skills of the best journalist. His work goes to the heart of the matter."
--Peter Kaminsky, New York Times Outdoors Writer and author of The Moon Pulled Up an Acre of Bass: A Montauk Flyrod Odyssey
"Scott Bowen's stories, set as they are in the act of fishing, are imbued with the quiet poignancy that we anglers sometimes discover while casting flies for wild fish." ---Joe Healy, Editor, Saltwater Fly Fishing magazine
"Scott Bowen has used the essence of fishing to exquisitely illustrate the human condition in all its odd turns and measures. These are wonderful tales, alternately intense, riotous, bizarre, and passionate."
--Jerry Gibbs, Fishing Editor
