“Refreshing to address a topic that is vital to the overall health of our waters and their inhabitants. I especially appreciated learning that hydro power is outdated. I will definitely get Steven Hawley’s book to better understand dams. Live two blocks from the Mississippi and a major dam in St. Paul. Thank you for such an informative show.”
“The basis thesis was that all or most dams should be taken down. That is simply unrealistic. For instance, my home town is below Ririe Dam. It was built for flood control after a pair of devastating floods. Removal is unrealistic and would put many property owners at risk. My point is that dam removal needs to be targeted at those that have outlived their usefulness or cause substantial harm, not call for removal of all. For instance, I can make an argument for the 4 Snake River dams because of the harm to Salmon. The counterbalancing arguments are that those dams provide hydro power and allow water transportation of farm products on barges. Anyone seeking removal needs to address both of those issues.”
