Description
This book is a simple catalog of ink sketches I created over the period from roughly 2008 though 2014. I have included a full catalog of my existing sketches of flies, fish, and fishing gear - they're all here. I decided to compile this sketch catalog for people who would like to browse the images, all the images, without the distraction of text. I see my ink sketches as simple representations of my world, having found the courage to "just draw" while visiting an elementary school in Corvallis, finding myself delighted to see paintings created by Third-graders. Their houses were off-kilter, their dogs had hind legs taller than the front, and the birds weren't quite like any real creature in nature. But their drawings made me smile, and I had a pretty good idea what they were representing. If 3rd grade children could create "art" why not me, as an adult? All it required, I reasoned, was to let go of my fear, and an expectation that my creations would meet a standard set by "real" artists. So I went to the local Bi-Mart, bought a kids watercolor set and a few ink pens, and started to doodle. Now, I'm told, I am an artist. Whatever.
For anyone who finds these sketches intriguing or pleasing, thank you.
Please note: I encourage all who purchase these books to take them to a business like Office Max or Kinkos and get them coil bound with a plastic cover sheet. It is rather inexpensive to do so and it makes it easy to lay the book flat open on a desk and prolongs the "like new" appearance of each book. Thank you very much. – JN
