ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Terry Barron started fishing with his father, using bamboo rods, back in 1952. In 1963, while attending Reno High School, he got his first look at Pyramid Lake. Terry caught his first Pyramid Lake cutthroat trout with a fly.
Since then he has become a Reno-area fly fishing guru. He helped establish the Truckee River Fly Fishers Club, which created Nevada’s first catch & release trophy section on the Truckee River. In the late 1980’s Terry started a fly fishing guide business and began tying flies commercially for the Reno Fly Shop.
These days Terry is a fixture at Pyramid Lake and the fly shop where he helps customers and teaches fly tying.
Jeff Cavender has been fishing with his friend Terry Barron since 1988. It was Jeff’s encouragement and support which finally prompted Terry to write this guide. A fourth generation Nevadan and lifelong fisherman, Jeff is part-owner and manager of the Reno Fly Shop where he still teaches the occasional fly fishing class when not out fishing the high desert or northern Sierra. In addition to editing this guide, Jeff is the co-author of the No Nonsense Guide to Fly Fishing in Nevada.
