Description

There’s an old adage that “The best fishing starts where the road ends”. That’s really what this book is about – the fishing that awaits the angler at the end of the road.

It has many names this place, back country, the bush, the New Zealand wilderness, high country. Whatever you want to call it, it has some of the best trout fishing in the world. It’s not just trout fishing, it is an experience, the sort memories are made of.

Many people have discovered for themselves the quality fishing that awaits them in the back country, not just local anglers, but visitors from overseas head into the hills each year to fish. As a result the trout have become educated to the ways of the angler.

Les Hill and Graeme Marshall, authors of the phenomenally successful books Stalking Trout and Catching Trout, have again combined their talents and experience to produce a guide to fishing the back country. Not a where to fish book but how to fish for trophy trout. A guide to unlo9ck many of the mysteries of back country trout fishing, and suggest ways of taking those difficult fish. This is a book not just for dedicated trout fishermen and women but also a book for those who just like to dream.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Les Hill
is Deputy Principal at a large Christchurch Intermediate School. His relaxation from the pressures of his job is trout fishing. Whenever time and school holidays allow Les heads for the back country with rod and camera. His photographic skills have seen his photographs appear in books, magazines, brochures and calendars. As an author he has had numerous articles published in out door magazines in New Zealand and overseas, as well as his two previous books Stalking Trout and Catching Trout which were co-authored with Graeme Marshall.

Graeme Marshall is a professional fishing guide who lives with his family at Ngatimoti on the banks of the Motueka River. He will be known to many readers already from his previous books and his regular column “The Sporting Science” in Rod and Rifle magazine. Graeme has an intimate knowledge of the back country rivers of Nelson and is an ardent campaigner for the preservation of this wonderful resource.

Graeme is married to Raewyn. They have two children who share their parents’ love of the outdoors.
